Cold Down To Your Bones // Amber & Indigo

amber-monsoon:

Every word that came from Indigo’s mouth was horrible. The things they had done to that poor man. Sure, Amber was no saint herself, far from it to be exact, but this was despicable - more so the manupulation than the actual torture. She was a little dissapointed, not so much in Indigo as in Rose. She didn’t know much about the Zephyr mercenary, but this definitely didn’t make her want to get to know her any better - that she would use the poor Gale like this was disturbing.

“Sometimes things just spiral out of control, Indigo” Amber put her hand gently over Indigo’s, knowing that it wouldn’t do her any good if she started lecturing her about morals or something stupid like that, she reminded herself that she’d done some pretty horrible stuff in her days too, and that their profession did leave both physical and mental scars and sometimes… sometimes taking it out on others helped, albeit only for a short second.

“You can’t change what happened, you have to forgive yourself and accept that what’s done is done” Amber’s voice was warm and caring “you are human, humans make mistakes - it’s not always nice or easy to deal with, but it’s the truth…” she sighed lightly, and forced the girl to look her in the eyes to make sure she heard what she would say next “I forgive you, okay?” she let herself smile and squeezed Indigo’s hand “and I’m a master, I normally never condone anything like what you just told me, but Indigo” she locked eyes with her “I forgive you… I forgive you”

It was on the tip of Indigo’s tongue to say she didn’t need or want Amber’s forgiveness, but she couldn’t form the actual words. Contrary to what she’d have everyone in the league believe, there was an actual person underneath the ice queen exterior she put up, it was just such a rarity that she ever let it down. She squeezed Amber’s hand in return. There wasn’t a whole lot left of the person she used to be before the League, the one who’d talked to everyone and made friends like breathing. But that didn’t mean she was a complete automaton, she still had feelings, and, maybe, a tiny little scrap of a soul. Somewhere.

“I…thanks,” she said, very quietly. “Good to know someone still thinks I’m worth forgiving. Not many people around here would care enough to say that. I honestly thought I didn’t need that anymore, but I guess some things are too deeply ingrained. I mean, within reason, given our line of work, but…you know what I mean? I think I lost my own train of thought in there somewhere.”
